My Biography
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Peter. I find myself stepping into a new chapter of life, embracing my passion for photography as a self-taught artist after a fulfilling career as a software developer, my journey into the world of photography began during my time in the United States Navy, where I served in the submarine service.
It was there, at the age of 20, that I purchased my very first SLR camera, a Petri FT, at the PX in vibrant Charleston, South Carolina. In those early days, I was somewhat lost when it came to the intricacies of using an SLR, but through perseverance and curiosity, I gradually learned to wield the Petri FT, capturing moments that would become cherished memories.
After my honorable discharge from the Navy, I transitioned into the private sector, initially working in electronics before diving into the realm of software development. The Petri FT became a faithful companion during this time, faithfully documenting family gatherings and milestones that filled my life with joy. However, once my two children spread their wings and took flight, the Petri FT was tucked away, and with each move, it gradually faded from my grasp.
As the years slipped by, I eventually reached the milestone of retirement from software development. Recognizing the need for a fulfilling pursuit to occupy my time and one that could also pad my pocket, I resolved to rekindle my passion for photography.
But oh, how the world of cameras had evolved while I was immersed in my career and family life! After extensive research, I set my sights on the cutting-edge Nikon Z7 II mirrorless camera, eager to explore the latest technologies. To ensure I was well-versed in current practices and techniques, I enrolled in the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) certificate program.
This esteemed certificate is valid for three years, with options for annual renewal through the accumulation of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The PPA offers a wealth of study materials and instructional videos to prepare candidates for both the theoretical and practical aspects of the program, including a photoshoot followed by a submission of our best work for evaluation. As of now, I've made significant headway through the study materials, immersing myself in the fundamentals of photography and honing various techniques with my Nikon Z7 II.
In summary, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and am steadily cultivating my skills in photography, finding immense joy in every aspect of this creative endeavor.
I wholeheartedly embrace the philosophy of “Never stop learning.” It's my guiding principle, and I am steadfast in my commitment to pursue lifelong learning.
